Ministry of Health Issues Urgent Warning: Pate Minh Chay Contains a Highly Potent Toxin
TTO - The Ministry of Health has issued a warning that Pate Minh Chay products contain a highly potent toxin. Between 13 July and 18 August, 9 patients suffered muscle paralysis, muscle weakness, drooping eyelids and weak limbs after eating this product.
According to the warning from the Vietnam Food Administration under the Ministry of Health, between 13 July and 18 August, 5 patients were admitted to Bach Mai Hospital, 2 to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City and 2 to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City, with symptoms including muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, muscle paralysis, weak limbs and difficulty breathing.
Investigations showed that all the patients had eaten Pate Minh Chay, produced by Loi Song Moi Co., Ltd. (a two-member limited liability company) at Group 2, Dong Anh town, Hanoi, and sold directly online (the company's websites are www.pate.1001monchay.com and minhchay.com).
Initial testing of Pate Minh Chay products from several different batches detected Clostridium botulinum type B. This is a strictly anaerobic, spore-forming bacterium whose toxin is extremely potent, causing severe and prolonged harm to health and easily leading to death.
In light of this, the Vietnam Food Administration urgently advises consumers to temporarily stop buying and using all products from Loi Song Moi Co., Ltd. and to notify their local health authorities if they still have any of the following products: Pate Minh Chay, lion's mane mushroom pâté, premium Heri mushroom floss, special eight-treasure sesame salt, herbal Heri mushroom floss, wheat-based gio lua, traditional peanut salt, wheat-based cinnamon cha que, eight-treasure sesame salt, wheat-based mushroom gio, traditional mushroom floss, lemongrass and chilli mushroom floss, and crispy garlic mushroom floss.
For consumers who have already eaten these products, the Vietnam Food Administration says that anyone showing the unusual health symptoms described above should go immediately to the nearest health facility for timely examination and monitoring.
